Full description
Day-1 Explore Rome on this full-day sightseeing tour. A licensed guide will meet you at your hotel and take you to the sights that you want to see. In the Vatican Museums you will discover the vast papal collection of art, including Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. Enter St. Peter's Basilica to gaze in awe at works of art such as Michelangelo's “Pietà” and Bernini’s Towers. Marvel at the monuments of Piazza Navona, and take a stroll around Bernini’s stunning Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi fountain. Go to the Pantheon, a 2,000-year-old pagan temple, to see the best-preserved monument of the Roman Republic.  Wander the streets and squares of the city center to see iconic sights, such as the Trevi Fountain. Throw a coin in the water if you one day want to return to Rome. Day-2 On this day, visit Colosseum and learn about life in the ancient city as you walk through the below-ground area where gladiators waited for battle, then continue to the arena. Step into the darkened chambers where gladiators prepared to meet their match in the arena, and see a recreated timber elevator that shows how animals were lifted up toward the spotlight.  Keep exploring Roman history in the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, where you’ll see temples, arches, and landmarks from the Roman Republic and Empire. Roman Forum, the center of life in Ancient Rome where people conducted business, sought justice, and discussed politics and philosophy. Then head to Palatine Hill, overlooking Circus Maximus, where the She-Wolf Lupa nursed the twin founders of Rome: Romulus and Remus. It is the oldest part of Rome and the area later favored by Rome’s richest and most powerful families.  Stroll through the quaint Trastevere District whose cobbled lanes are home to favorite local restaurants and cafes. Walk through the district with your guide, stopping at various eateries for tastings of classic Roman dishes like pasta, pizza bianca (pizza with no tomato sauce), fresh mozzarella cheese, locally cured salami and artisan gelato.
