Populated with frescoes and monuments you will be able to explore a city as it was back in the days of the Roman Empire. Pompeii was rediscovered in 1748, when excavations began, and through the different centuries more and more parts of the city have been unearthed. I was traveling with my wife, father-in-law and two 20-ish daughters. The bus ride was comfortable, the bus guide Georgio was quite good - very nice, helpful and informative on the trip to Pompeii, but interaction with him was limited. When we arrived at Pompeii we were assigned to a local guide. He was very knowledgeable and informative, but his accent was very difficult to understand. While I did not have a problem, my father-in-law was struggling. As a result, I don’t think he enjoyed the trip very much. When our tour was finished, we still had about 2 hours to kill before the bus was ready to leave. We sat down and ate a pretty bland meal at the hotel, which I do not recommend. Overall, I really enjoyed the trip. Pompeii is absolutely incredible, but to really do it justice, you need more than couple hours. If all you want is a taste of Pompeii, or that’s all you have time for, then by all means this is fine, but I would have preferred spending more time in the archeological park.

The guide in the bus was good. The guide at Pompeii was friendly and seemed knowledgeable but all 4 of us found her English very hard to understand. We maybe got 40% of what she said. I don't regret the trip but I'm not sure I'd recommend it either because it's so much bus time relative to actual exploration time.
