Full description
Visit the Sistine Chapel and admire this gem early in the morning. Enjoy skip-the-ticket-line entry 15 minutes before other groups and 1 hour and 15 minutes before the general public. After the discovering the Sistine Chapel, you will be free to tour the Vatican Museums at your own pace. Once known as Cappella Magna, the chapel derives its name from Pope Sixtus IV, who restored it between the years 1477 and 1480. Since then, this special place has served as a location of religious, as well as functionary, papal activity. Today it is the hall where the papal conclave takes place, the process by which a new pope is elected. The fame and fortune of the Sistine Chapel comes mainly from the world-renowned frescos that decorate its interior, especially the Sistine Chapel ceiling and The Last Judgment by the Tuscan sculptor and painter Michelangelo. After the Sistine Chapel, you’ll be free explore the impressive art collections of the Vatican Museums with a full-day ticket.

It was a bit hard to find the guide near the Caffe Vatican but otherwise it was great. Our ticket was admission only (not guided tour) and that was perfect for us. We were admitted to the Sistine Chapel at precisely 8am and were amongst the first few people in the Chapel - a beautiful experience to be in the chapel with less than 10 people, even briefly, before others began to arrive. I highly recommend it.

Early entrance to the Sistine Chapel

The arrangements to meet up were clear and finding your specific guide wasn't that difficult. Once assembled, it was an easy process to get into the Vatican. My one comment would be that for the price you paid (£53 approx each) it should have included an audio guide as once inside, we were left on our own without any information on what we were looking at.

    not actually at 7:20 am

This tour says it's at 7:20 am, but when we checked in, she said it was for 7:30 am. We were still among the very first to enter the sistine chapel, but don't be fooled that this tour is actually somehow earlier than all of the other ones you see advertised. However, because this isn't a guided tour, we were able to pass the guided tours and get to the Sistine Chapel before they did and have it to ourselves for a few minutes, which was amazing.
