Full description

Discover the grandeur of Rome on a day trip from Civitavecchia. Travel in a comfortable and airconditioned coach and stop at highlights like the St. Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and Pantheon.

Depart from the port of Civitavecchia by bus in the morning and relax on the ride to Rome. Upon arrival, meet your licensed guide and head to the imposing Leonine Walls.

Listen as your guide provides you commentary about Rome’s historical traditions and its art. Head to St. Peter’s Square to admire stunning views of St. Peter's Basilica which is surrounded by Bernini’s colonnades which date back to 1656.

Enter St. Peter's Basilica, but if there are long lines to enter your guide will tell you about the Basilica from the outside. Explore the famous artwork inside the largest church in the world.

Meet your tour leader at a designated point for the second part of the tour. Hop on the bus for a panoramic ride along the streets. Cross the Tiber river near Tiberine Island, pass by Capitoline Hill which was designed by Michelangelo.

View ride the Marcello Theater which was commissioned by the Emperor Augustus. Watch as your guide points out monuments like the Temple of Portuno and Temple of Hercules, 2 of the finest temples in the center of Rome.

End your sightseeing bus ride with a stop near the Colosseum and start the walking portion of your tour with a guide at the foot of the Colosseum. Stroll by Circus Maximus, the largest stadium built in ancient Rome and where thrilling chariot races once took place.

Continue along the famous Dei Fori Imperiali road leading to Piazza Venezia. See the Altar of the Fatherland and visit the spectacular Trevi Fountain, which was originally designed by Bernini, but finally constructed by the architect Nicola Salvi.

Have 30-40 minute break where you can go purchase a light lunch or an ice cream from one of the local shops. Walk to the Pantheon, the great pagan temple that dates back 2,000 years.

Finish your tour with a visit to Piazza Navona, to view masterpieces by Bernini and Borromini, the greatest architects of the 17th-century. Marvel at Borromini 's Church of St. Agnes in Agony and Bernini's 4 Rivers Fountain. Return to Civitavecchia by bus.

First of all the guide Mary was excellent and did her best to please us. As a tour guide also, you should add at least one and half hour to the tour and start one hour earlier. Of course you can increase the price accordingly. Still will be much cheaper than the ship price. People will not be rushed like cattle. I'm a retired tour agent too.

We had Andrea (not sure of the spelling) as our guide and he was amazing! He is extremely knowledgeable about Rome and is very good at keeping the group together and ensuring we were all kept safe. He added humour to the tour as well and made the tour very enjoyable. The only recommendation we could make would be to split the group in half. At times we missed much of the explanations as we were at the back of the group and could not see where Andrea was pointing as there were just too many participants in the tour to capture all of the great information.

It was our (a group of 6 girfriends) 1st time booking transfers via getyourguide & were slightly apprehensive about the service given that neither of us had travelled in Greece before & the return transfer rate was so reasonably priced. We contemplated about our transfer options (catch a taxi or train when we got to Athens) but relented on this option. We grew more anxious when our flight from Santorini was delayed by almost 3 hours, but the transfer service contact assured us that they would monitor the flight time & would be waiting for us when we arrived. We were so delighted when the transfer driver was waiting for us & kept me posted to exactly where he was waiting. His English was good & my girlfriends & I were comfortable with trip to our hotel & the overall service.
