Great visit, great information and explanations! Vatican museums were crowded but less than the morning visits from what we heard. I would therefore recommend a visit in the afternoon. Please note that they close at 6 pm, so do not order food or drink after the visit since they will ask you to leave the premises around 5.45pm.

Our tour guide was excellent, but the tour started late in part because we had to wait for microphones --which never came. So we waited in line to pick them up in the Vatican Museum. Consequently by the time we got to the Sistine Chapel is was pretty well packed. Perhaps that is typical for that time of day, but I didn't feel it was worth the extra money for early-bird entrance. Having said that, I want to say again that or guide was excellent.

Our guide Renata was very funny and knew a lot of things, she is cool. We had to walk very fast because it was a looooot to see; the headset from the museum did not work properly so sometimes we did not hear everything, but all in all it was quite an interesting experience!
