Full description
A perfect trip for wine lovers, don't miss this day-long excursion through the region that gave us port wine. Leaving Porto, your first stop on your Douro Valley tour is the town of Amarante. With its narrow, winding streets and buildings made from local granite, Amarante is emblematic of the region's beauty. Admire the Convent and Church of São Gonçalo, and a number of beautiful and imposing bridges. Or, if you’re in the mood for a some modern art, your guide can take you to the museum dedicated to the life and work of Amadeo de Souza Cardosa, who was born in Amarante in 1887. Continue your trip through the city of Régua on your way to Pinhão, with a stop at a panoramic viewpoint in Mesão Frio. In Régua, admire the beautiful stained glass windows of Casa do Douro, which illustrate the history of how barrels of wine were first transported down the Douro River in the 18th century. In Pinhão, you'll see the city's famous train station, built in 1879, as well as the Douro Museum, where you'll learn about centuries of port winemaking history. Pinhão is a land of rivers, valleys, vineyards and houses climbing up the slopes, making this one of the most stunning landscapes in the Portugal. You will walk along the river, passing through the train station with its typical tiles and then head to a farm for a Port wine tasting — the perfect way to cap off you Douro adventure.

Paulo was an excellent tour guide

We booked at the last minute and were lucky enough to get Paulo. He was quite knowledgeable, willing to take us wherever we asked him to stop and to make reservations at a couple of port lodges. The smaller ones. Away from the bus tours. At one stop, he even gave the lodge tour.
