Full description

Be collected at your accommodation around 9:00 AM. Then head to your first destination, Filerimos Hill. Here, visit the monastery of Our Lady and the remains of the Ancient Acropolis of Ialyssos, which is one of the three ancient cities of Rhodes island. You can walk along a Golgotha, which is a tree-sheltered pathway with a series of shrines with scenes of the Holy Passion. This footpath leads to an enormous imposing cross, which from the top you can admire the outstanding view of the villages and bright green valleys.  Next, visit the Valley of Butterflies. This is a unique and peaceful ecological setting, which is a true representation of local nature, with narrow rock walkways, lakes decorated by water-lilies, rustic bridges, running waters, waterfalls, and resting places loaded with millions of brown-red butterflies.

Visit the local museum there, and admire the large variety of different species and intricate photographs.

You will return to your accommodation around 2:00 PM.

This is just a bus transfer in an air-conditioned minibus, with leather interior and for a small group. The driver was very friendly, gave information about the departure times, etc. This is explicitly not a guided tour or similar. All entrance fees have to be paid by yourself. €6pp for the monastery and €3pp for the butterfly valley. Both very worth seeing. It is essential to ensure that you bring sturdy shoes for the Butterfly Valley, the paths are very uneven and resemble a hike up a mountain. In addition, the butterflies can only be seen in June, July and August (display board in front of the entrance describes the life cycle).

Communication from the travel company was very good, even called morning of pick up to say they would be 10 minutes late. Clear instructions from driver re time leaving each venue. Both attractions were good. Only saw one variety of butterfly but there were a lot of them. This was a self guided tour so no reviews for guide.

Very nice day out with not too lengthy journeys to and from each place, the stops were a good length of time to enjoy what was to offer. Butterfly valley has a long trek up with lots of steps with some ok views, but surprisingly I preferred Filerimos as butterfly valley just seemed like a hike.
