Full description
Enjoy a day tour to the Southern Highland of Fjallabak to explore the wonders of Iceland's Landmannalaugar and Hekla Volcano area. Dive into a bubbling wonderland with caramel colored peaks, soothing hot springs, rambling lava flows and clear blue lakes.  Landmannalaugar, together with Hekla, an active volcano in its neighborhood, is one of Iceland's most unique destinations and a must for all who love to explore the beauty of nature. Discover one of the most active geothermal areas flanked by rhyolite mountains and steaming hot springs. Start the day with lunch and set off on a 4-hour hike through the sprawling lava fields of Laugahraun, Vondugil Canyon and up to the summit of the colorful mountain of Brennisteinsalda with its steaming vents and Sulphur deposits. Descend through the Grænagil canyon, carved as a result of geodynamic activity of mountains, volcanoes and glacial rivers. If time and weather conditions allow, climb Bláhnúkur, a circa 60,000-year-old volcano with panoramic views of the Landmannalaugar Valley.  Have a bath in a natural hot pool, where both hot and cold water flow out from beneath Laugahraun, mixing together and forming the perfect bathing conditions. Remember to take your swimwear and a towel with you.

Even if the road it a bit long, it really worths it! The landscapes are gorgeous and unique and the hike is accessible for everyone. Our guide Kike was very nice and has explained us everything we need to know about the place. I really recommend this journey, it’s a must see!!

Unfortunately, the pick-up from the bus station in Reykjavik was delayed due to problems with a car. However, the Arctic Adventures team reorganized everything, which allowed us to start the trip promptly. The bus ride was fine, the driver drove confidently through the tracks and over the gravel roads. The guide was great, told us a lot of interesting things about the surrounding volcanoes and the area. He made the whole thing varied and always funny. During the bus ride he also explained a few things, which unfortunately were difficult to understand due to the poor microphone. The hike had a length of about 7km, for which we needed about 3h and 30min. The ascent was sometimes quite steep and rocky. Basically, perhaps more as "moderate" than as a beginner's tour! Otherwise everything was great, we definitely recommend the tour!

It was breathtaking to be able to hike through these extraterrestrial landscapes. The guides were friendly and helpful. The weather was awesome. And the dip in the pool was like the icing on the cake. Must be one of the best experiences while traveling in Iceland. So why four instead of five stars? That's because the pickup time was unclear. Two different times were mentioned. After the pickup we spend an hour driving through Reykjavik and ending up at our pickup point again. There is some space for improvement. Apart from this, I recommend doing this experience very much.
