Reykjavik: Fagradalsfjall Volcano Hike

1. Reykjavik: Fagradalsfjall Volcano Hike

Get picked up in Reykjavík and set off for the experience of a lifetime, as you hike to a volcanic eruption at Geldingadalur. Head for the volcanic eruption at the Reykjanes Peninsula – where the first volcanic activity in the area for about 800 years is happening. The lava slowly coming up to the surface gives you a chance to experience this amazing natural wonder from a close distance. Our guide will hike up to the volcano with you and tell you all you need to know about the new Fagradalsfjall volcano. The hike is about 1.5-2 hours and has a moderate level of difficulty. Once you arrive, you'll get the chance to see the hot flowing lava of the volcanic eruption. We'll hike around the Fagradalsfjall volcano until we find the best location to sit and enjoy the view, before heading back down.

What people are saying about Reykjanes Peninsula

Absolutely breathtaking views from the top. You need to be generally of good health and fitness to do the hike (there’s a few steep bits and it’s windy at the top). But I don’t regularly exercise and managed ok as we had stops along the way for photos and the guide to tell us about the hike. He was excellent Carlos was his name and he was attentive and made sure we were all ok. The views from the top were stunning and amazing to see the lava still steaming

I would highly recommend this excursion. The hike on the volcano was so much fun. It's definitely labour intensive and we had to wait for a few people who struggled. It's definitely worth the effort though.

To do, the lava flow is impressive. Splendid landscapes to go there. Quite accessible hike.

It’s a beautiful and potentially challenging hike if you’re not in good physical shape.

It was a unique experience! You have the opportunity to see the wild side of Iceland!
