  • Reykjavík: Half-Day Guided Hike of Fagradalsfjall Volcano

    1. Reykjavík: Half-Day Guided Hike of Fagradalsfjall Volcano

Enjoy an afternoon or evening hike in Geldingadalur Valley, where lava flows from erupting volcanoes, to witness the Fagradalsfjall Volcano. Learn the history of the volcanoes of the area from your expert guide. Get picked up in Reykjavík and set out on a scenic drive surrounded by breathtaking views towards the Fagradalsfjall Volcano and Geldingadallur Valley. The Fagradalsfjall Volcano is erupting for the first time in 7,000 years. Once at the valley, put on your hiking gear and head towards the volcano to hopefully see some live lava flowing. Bring snacks along with you and enjoy them while you watch the spectacular natural show. Afterward, as you drive along the peninsula, your guide will fill you in on the history of volcanos in the area — many long-dormant, now covered by soft green lava moss.

Our guide Boje and driver Sentri (probably not the correct spelling) we’re fun and informative and kept everyone safe on this trip. Sadly the weather was horrendous but that’s nature. We saw some smouldering lava and could feel the heat, sadly nothing else. It gives us a reason to come back.

The tour guide was cool, made sure no one was bored during the drive and also emphasized the rules for hiking up the mountain safely. We stopped at a hotspring area and finally arrived at the bottom of a mountain next to the volcano. The hike to the top wasn’t too hard (says an 18 year old) and the view on the volcano was great.

Perfect tour! The tour guides were the best I’ve ever had. Cared deeply about you enjoying your trip. They took us the best way up the mountain to see the volcano. Bring your own light and remember the path up as it can get a little tricky to get back down if you are oblivious to the route you took up

Really great tour to the volcano. This is a once in a lifetime experience! Who has: Take headlights for the descent, there are some from the organizer, but unfortunately they are not particularly bright. Otherwise, really great organization!

It was very good tour. Unfortunately the volcano had stopped erupting for 5 days so we did not see it erupt.

Super informative tour and we were lucky that the volcano was active again.
