What people are saying about Reykjanes
I have visited over 40 countries across 7 continents and this experience ranks VERY easily in the top three of my life. Perhaps the most visceral and spiritual of all. The weather was not good. Even if you have experience with cold weather hiking, I recommend at least water resistant gear. Certainly bring warm clothing and a hat. There is a great deal of mud. Our guide Magni gave us some excellent information and context to make the experience a bit more intellectually exciting. Also note the times provided are to be rather loosely interpreted. We arrived at our hotel much later than advertised BUT (and I say this as someone who had to work early the next morning) I would not have shaved off a single second of the experience. Pickup was easy enough. We were one minute late for the bus from Reykjavik, but were able to contact customer service, who sent the shuttle on another loop to pick us up. The only tricky bit is typing Icelandic characters into our map app. Copy/paste!
Cristina, our tour guide was excellent. Even when we could not experience the eruption of the volcano, she tried to compensate it with other sightseeing along our way to Blue Lagoon. She is a knowledgeable person and she entertained us with stories while driving. She behaved as a mother taking care of us in every single thing we need. Also, after the tour finished we asked her for tips on our trip and she kindly took the time to fulfill every concern. The best tour guide!
It was simply amazing. There are not many places in the would like that. We were lucky with weather, with volcano activity ... and with the guide. The right man in the right place. He did an excellent job!
An excellent tour which started in daylight and ended seeing the lava flows against a night sky. The organisation and the volcano loving guide ( only second day in the job) were top class.
Great trip! Even though the volcano wasn't active, Jacob made it an amazing trip. Got to see the lava fields close up and learned a lot! Thank you!
