Reykjavik: Guided Volcano and Lava Field Hike with Geopark

1. Reykjavik: Guided Volcano and Lava Field Hike with Geopark

Embark on a guided tour of the newly formed lava field from the volcanic eruptions in Geldingadalur and Meradalir. Enjoy the opportunity to witness rare geological activity at the now dormant volcanoes. Start your tour at the boiling mud pools and colorful landscapes of the Seltún Geothermal Area. Hike up to the volcano and take in the views of the fresh lava field. Take a walk between two continents on a stop by the bridge between the continental plates that divide the peninsula. On the way back to Reykjavík stop by Gunnuhver, the largest mud pool in Iceland. Experience the ground shaking from the enormous power released from the boiling water and steam.

Loved the tour. My only negative is the tour notes stated it would have a guide and be 1.5-2 hour hike each way. We didn’t have a guide and only stopped at this location for 1 hour 40 minutes. However we made the most of our time and swiftly made our way up and thoroughly enjoyed it.

In addition to the volcano we visited two geothermal springs and the fracture between the two tectonic plates. Very smart guide who told very well

you can't see the active lava from the volcano, it's already dry but still worthwhile

It was a wonderful ride with nice stops and a great view after the hike!

The volcano experience was out of the world. Very informative guide
