Full description

This half-day activity begins and concludes with a 45-minute cruise across Queenstown’s Lake Wakatipu onboard the historic TSS Earnslaw. Spend a few hours enjoying the culinary delights at Walter Peak High Country Station, including an entertaining farm demonstration the whole family will enjoy.

Feel free to take advantage of the extensive lay-out of this incredible steamship – she is a floating museum of her own history, and you are more than welcome to enter the engine room where you can watch our hardy coal-stokers as they keep this beautiful lady of the lake gliding across the waters of Lake Wakatipu. Overlooking Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown’s incredible alpine scenery, the Colonel’s Homestead at Walter Peak is the perfect place to spend a beautiful day in Central Otago. Its colonial architecture and sweeping grounds evoke the elegance of a bygone era. Spend your time wandering the award-winning gardens, or saying hello to the animals that call the station home. The BBQ Buffet includes salads, vegetables, and succulent local meats cooked on the outdoor rotisserie or grill. There is a wide range of desserts on offer, including a vast array of fresh bread and cheese. If you have any dietary restrictions, please let the supplier know directly so we can safely accommodate your requests.

We had a fabulous day with friends on this day outing. The crystal clear waters of the lake mirrored the beautiful mountain peaks, the smell of burning coal, the magnificent English settings of the homestead all contributed to the day. The lunch certainly was memorable with many different delicious barbecued meats, an array of interestingly presented vegetables and salads along with tantalizing desserts. After a wander through the gorgeous cottage garden we saw a sheepdog demonstration which was both entertaining and informative with one of the sheep shorn in front of us. A very different relaxing day which is recommended to all.

One of our best days ever. Starting and finishing with ferry ride onboard the only working coal fired steam ferry which was a pleasant way to start and end our day. We were welcomed by waving staff who were very organised and led us to the BBQ. The BBQ was much more than that, it was a pure feast delivered in pleasant surroundings. We were then given a very informative and entertaining show of farm life with sheep shearing and herding of the sheep by the wonderful sheep dogs. The whole day was a special time and we will definatelly revisit on our next visit to NZ. Thank you.

Absolutely enjoyed every minute of our experience on the earnslaw. Even though It was raining it was still a great trip . Friendly staff on the boat and the food at Walter peak station was 100%. Sheep shearing was a hit also . Highly recommend this to everyone travelling through Queenstown . Would love to do it again .
