Enter the world of copper art, known as the art of «Repoussé», mastered by the Gilles family at the Cuivres d'Art Albert Gilles Art Studio & Museum. Share their passion for this disapearing art carried on by 5 women of the family. Learn the history of the art form and how the art studio's founder, Albert Louis Gilles, dedicated his life to his passion. Discover the fascinating life of this artist: the history of how Pope Pius XII commissioned him to execute the silver chalice offered to the archdiocese of Montreal in 1942. Hear stories of how he decorated more than thirty places of worship in North America and Jamaica and homes of famous clients like Mae West, the GM proprietors, or Walt Disney Be amazed by the Christorama exhibit: a collection of 50 panels depicting the Life of Christ, done over a period of 15 years by Albert Gilles. In a second museum, information about copper ore (mining and extraction) and its uses around the world will be unveiled. During your visit the art and different techniques used to shape their creations are brought to light. At the end of the tour and after a demonstration of the technique of Repoussé, you'll use what you learned to create your own piece of copper art to take back home! For 40 years, the Maritime Museum of Charlevoix has been telling the story of wooden schooners and the cabotage on the St. Lawrence. Live a 360° experience, from the forest to the river, between culture and nature. Discover the old shipyard from 1946 and its four boats in dry dock. The museum also contains the multimedia experience 'Between Pitoune and Dynamite: The St-André Schooner' as real as the life of sailors in 1956. You can do the tour of the site in an hour and a half or spend a full day embracing all the museum and surroundings have to offer.
