From Quarteira, Albufeira, or Portimão: Silves & Monchique

2. From Quarteira, Albufeira, or Portimão: Silves & Monchique

The magical city of Silves is an enchanting example of the Arab influence that was present in its history and in its architecture, clearly evident due to the most important castle in the Algarve. You will have time to experience the thermal spa of Caldas De Monchique located in the heart of the Serra de Monchique Natural Park. Foia is situated within a stunning landscape and is famous for being the highest point of the Algarve. Here in Foia, you have the opportunity to taste the famous Medronho brandy, the most traditional drink in the Algarve made from the fruit harvested on the slopes of the Serra. You will then have some time to relax over a meal and experience local food and hospitality. Lastly you will stop in the traditional village of Monchique located at an altitude of 450 m where we can leisurely walk through its narrow streets and soak in the atmosphere of the unspoilt Algarve.

What people are saying about Quarteira

The excursion was longer than expected. We got in our first vehicle at 12:30 where we were transferred from Vilamoura to Albufueria where we went onto a coach that done 5 more pick ups before heading to lagos including merging with another coach. We arrived at Lagos at 2:30pm and stayed there until 4pm. We then had another hour of driving to visit Sagres (no stop) and cabo de Sao Vicente which had stunning views and we were able to catch the sun going down but had to leave before the sunset (5:30pm). The drive back to Albufueria with all the stops was then about 7:30pm. We arrived back in Vilamoura at 8pmish. The trip was longer than expected given the description on the website. We did have a lovely time but ourselves and other guests were in agreement that it was quite a long day. We would recommend booking but be aware of travel time on the bus. Can't really fault 25 euros per person for the time and distance covered though.

This is a good trip but I think it is far too short. The trip doesn't depart and pick up until early afternoon, by which time half the day is already over. That's a pity because Lagos is a beautiful, historic town with so much to see (museum and golden church, slave market etc) . There were also lots of small shops, which were all open. An hour and ten minutes is simply not enough time. Similarly, Cabo Sao Vicente is spectacular but we only stayed half an hour. Our Guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the extensive history of the areas and the trip is worth going on if you've no way of getting there independently.

It was a great trip with a nice guide who tell us a lot about the places where we go and what is the most important to see. Even the time of the travel by coach we can't stand :)

Maravilhoso. Quero ressaltar o papel da motorista e guia Vanda. Atenciosa, bom papo, bom humor e muito educada. Entregou mais que o esperado. Recomendação fortíssima.
