Manuel Antonio National Park from San Jose
- Small group
- Transportation included
- Duration: 12 hours
We booked the trip on a recommendation by the front desk staff at Oceano Hotel. We were picked up by a bus from the ranch, arrived to welcoming, organized staff, and soon introduced to our healthy, responsive horses. Gerry, our guide, was exceedingly calm and friendly. He explained how to rein and stop the horses, and allowed those who could trot and lope to do so. After passing through several fields, including one that had a cow and her day-old calf in it, we tied up the horses and hiked ten minutes to the swimming holes, fed by mountain springs. This was heavenly! Gerry chatted with us parents as our children had an experience of a lifetime: jumping into a fresh water pool in the middle of a mountain-side, lush forest. The horses did not push home, but minded their manners on the way back as we asked them to walk, trot, and sometimes wait for gates to be opened. Back at our starting point, we washed up and enjoyed fresh fruit.
Overall a great experience, for a quick beach day with multiple complementary stops along the way. The itinerary is accurate but we made a couple additional quick stops attempting to locate a Macaw (which we found!). Kenneth (guide) clearly was experienced. He was very talkative and informative with the guests that made the trip fun. NOTE to anyone interested in going, Manuel Antonio is very touristy by nature. The paths are very well defined and you'll likely see sloths, monkeys, lizards, and most of all... other people! Also they are very restrictive on snacks at the entrance (NONE ALLOWED), but there are shops outside the park you can buy water and food if you are starving.
Booked this tour on GetYourGuide in San Jose. Was such a nice day tour out of San Jose. Juan speaks very good English and was a great guide, he was attentive, friendly, helpful but also respected our own space. Monteverde was amazing - there was a local guide who led us on the hike and he was very knowledgable and the hanging bridges and the the rainforest were simply breath taking. Other people on the tour were super friendly and nice too. The lunch was at a really nice restaurant providing high quality local cuisine. Not like a typical tourist spot. This is a must-go experience!
Great tour!! Lovely guide - Mao - very friendly, knowledgeable, pleasure to spend the day with. I have never been to a coffee plantation before - was very interesting to see how coffee is made. The volcano was stunning!! We got very lucky as the park was closed in the morning due to some volcanic activity, but it reopened very shortly after we arrived. Would have been disappointing to miss that part of the tour. Last stop was La Paz - which was absolutely beautiful, buffet lunch had good variety and was in the middle of the rainforest. Such a great experience!
We really waited this tour, as it was our dream destination for a long time ago. Unfortunately it was raining on that day, so the waterfall wasn't that blue, but the experience was still unforgettable! Diego, our tour guide, was the best! He really knows everything about Costa Rica, the ecosystem, all the flowers and animals! He was very patient and we took our time to search for animals and birds. We loved every moment! Thanks so much for this experience!
