A água da lagoa é fornecida pela usina geotérmica de Svartsengi que fica nas proximidades. A Lagoa Azul é considerada como tendo qualidades regenerativas devido ao rico teor de sílica e enxofre da água. A lama de sílica está disponível gratuitamente nas laterais da piscina para os hóspedes desfrutarem como uma máscara facial.
