There's a wealth of ancient Greek treasures waiting to be explored just a short hop from Athens. This full-day tour takes you to key sites like Thebes and Delphi, both rich in the country's myth and history. As local guide Niko says, “walking through these ancient places, you can truly feel the stories of heroes and gods come to life.” First, you'll journey through the plain of Boeotia, crossing the towns of Thebes – home of King Oedipus, a tragic figure whose story is central to Greek Mythology. You'll then stop for a coffee near the quaint mountainside town of Levadia, the region's capital.
Then it's on to Delphi, once considered the centre of the ancient world, and whose reputation extended well beyond the boundaries of Hellenic civilisation. You'll explore the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios, which are beautifully set on the slopes of Mount Parnassus.
You'll then visit the Treasury of the Athenians, the Temple of Apollo and the Delphi Museum, home to masterpieces like the bronze Charioteer and the statue of Aghias. After lunch at a local tavern, you'll enjoy some free time in the village of Arachova, known for its stone houses and mountainside views. Then, it's back to your hotel to unwind.
