Full description
Get beneath the skin of Porto, Potugal’s impressive 2nd city, on a half-day walking tour that takes in the most emblematic monuments of the city center, and discovers lesser known attractions. Meet your local guide on Praça dos Leões to see the Bank of Tiles. Then, go to the stunning Igreja do Carmo (Carmelitas Church), part of a 17th-century convent with a classical façade. Stop at the Lello Bookshop, one of the most beautiful book stores in the world, before walking to the Torre dos Clérigos bell tower of the Igreja dos Clérigos. Here, you will also find an Oriental grocery store popular with locals. Get breathtaking city views from the Vitória mirador. Continue along Avenida dos Aliados towards Liberdade Square. On Avenida Santa Catarina, pause to taste a typical Portuguese custard tart in a local coffee shop. Savor the aromas of Bolhão Market, where Porto residents stock up on fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers. Next, wander over to the São Bento Railway Station, where the mosaic walls depict scenes from Portuguese history. Admire views of the Douro River and Sé Cathedral.

Our guide Susanna was amazing. She is very passionate and energetic and we saw a lot in the time we had. She also gave us loads of tips for things to do after the tour (and where to buy original or replicas of the porto tiles). We had a really fun time discovering Porto with her.

This was a terrific tour of hidden and known gems of Porto led by an intelligent, articulate and well-versed guide, Ciana. May you be so lucky as to draw her name as your guide. Great vistas, great historical overview, and a highlight of a visit to the Livraria Jello, a favorite haunt of JK Rowling’s when taught in Porto and you’ll see its influence on the Harry Potter story.

It was pouring with rain. Raphael our guide didn't let that deter us. so we set off and I thought that we would give up after the first half hour getting soaked. 3 hours later I'm so glad we stuck it out. Raphael was very knowledgeable and made it quite fun. The custard tarts (nata) we had were served warm. Raphael suggested we eat them as the locals do sprinkled with cinnamon - superb.
