Full description

Experience the beauty of Aveiro’s channels on a tour aboard a colorful Portuguese gondola on this half-day tour from Porto. Ride along naturally-formed channels that connect to the river and to the sea.

Meet at a centrally-located spot in Porto and board a comfortable van for your transfer to Aveiro. Absorb the culture of this city that was once a fishing village, where residents made their living from the river, the sea, and salt production.

Begins at the fish market square, where you’ll have great views of the city center. Head out on an hour-long cruise on a vibrantly-painted, wooden moliceiro boat. Glide thorugh the channels on this traditional, Portuguese vessel.

After the cruise your guide will show you the Costa Nova neighborhood that borders the sea. Admire some of the old traditional houses that are small in size, and painted in bright colors with vertical stripes. Return to Porto by van at the end of your tour.

We thoroughly enjoyed our half day tour to Aviero, which was made all the better by our engaging guide, Maria. We did a stop at the Striped houses in Costa Nova which really have to seen to be appreciated, and then onto Aviero for the cruise and walking tour. Absolutely Super trip and Guide. We would highly recommend this one.

The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable of the history and what to recommend. The tour itself was just ok because Aveiro was town with a river in it. The timing of the tour was kind of bad... We arrive at the first stopping point (the colorful house with vertical stripes)... the town was dead... but very good for pictures. Arriving in Aveiro. Boat tour was great and we learned about the town and the buildings. The town was small, but with a lot of nice little shops to browse. An hour there for me was just enough... and it was around 11 or 12... so the shops were still open.

Our tour to Aveiro over an hour from Porto allowed us to see the countryside outside of a big Portuguese city. We passed through the city of Gaia, a cork factory and saw storks along the way. In Aveiro, called the “little venice” of Portugal, we got on gondola type boats and traveled the canals. We learned about the history of the city, the Salina fields where salt is taken and about the different types of architecture represented in the buildings. On the way back, we stopped in Costa Novo, a beach town with multi colored striped houses bordered the ocean. It was quite lovely and a good way to spend the afternoon. One thing that really makes a great tour is the guide. Nuno was awesome - extremely knowledgeable and very helpful in giving information about many other things. Five stars for this tour and our excellent guide
