7. THE DYNAMIC EYE - A TATE COLLECTION | Atkinson Museum

The Atkinson Museum, located in the WOW Cultural District will host an exhibition from the TATE Collection – The Dynamic Eye: Beyond Optical and Kinetic Art – From the 4th of July. TATE At the heart of TATE is its collection of art, which includes British art and international modern art. Featuring the largest number of works to travel from TATE to Portugal, this exhibition marks the beginning of an ongoing collaboration with TATE. THE DYNAMIC EYE COLLECTION Artists associated with Optical and Kinetic art see the viewer not as a passive spectator, but as an activity participant, engaging with art in real time and space. Artists combine simple lines, geometric shapes, and eye-popping colour to create optical effects and illusions. Their works trigger complex visual sensations, activated by the viewer, and intensified by the inclusion of kinetic parts that create real or perceived movements- Such works challenge our sense of perception, encouraging us to move around the work, interact, engage and look closely. Bringing together more than 60 artists from all over the world, the exhibition includes works by major figures – Victor Vasarely, Julio Le Parc, Frank Stella, Lygia Clark, Alexander Calder, Naum Gabo, and Liliane Lijn.

Experience Casa São Roque, an art center which has temporary exhibitions of international artists. The art center offers you the chance to you enjoy a unique experience consisting of contemporary artwork, architecture, and history. This guided tour allows you to learn all about the history of the house and the concept behind the exhibition. Casa São Roque is located in S. Roque Park in the eastern part of Porto. It had an intervention between 1900 and 1911 by architect, José Marques da Silva. It contains unique architectural and decorative features, with a very unique winter garden. You also can visit the São Roque Park, which is over 4 hectares in size and had an intervention by the famous Porto gardener, Jacinto de Matos. Today, the 200 camellias, grotto, gazebo, and arbor remain important landmarks of garden architecture form the time.
