Portland, Maine: Tasting Tour to Local Breweries

1. Portland, Maine: Tasting Tour to Local Breweries

Spend the day walking, talking, and tasting your way through the historic city of Portland, Maine. Led by a local guide, this 2 or 3-hour walking tour takes you through the interesting history of the city's beer culture. From becoming the birthplace of Prohibition in 1851 to establishing the first craft brewery in all of New England in 1983, Portland has a riveting story to tell.  Experience the city that saw the first craft brewery to be established in all of New England, Geary Brewing Company in 1983. It welcomed Gritty McDuff’s in 1988 as they opened their doors in the Old Port to become the first brewpub in the state. It witnessed the dramatic rise of Shipyard Brewing Company in 1992 to be one of the county’s largest brewing enterprises that now spans well beyond the U.S. to shores far away.  See the world-renowned Belgian-influenced Allagash Brewing Company which was also found within the city limits. Sebago Brewing Company counts Portland as one of their five locations serving their delicious beer along with amazing food.  Pass by one of the world’s only brewery-distillery-restaurants that was formed on Portland’s waterfront once Liquid Riot turned on their open sign in 20111. There are many other breweries in the neighborhood around Portland that are shaping their own history in the present day. Choose among the Old Port, East Bayside, and IndustriALE Way itineraries to sip and learn about each individual neighborhood's unique breweries. Each tour includes three stops at local breweries, with a tasting at each one.
