Portimão Walking Tour

1. Portimão Walking Tour

Discovery the history of modern Portimão, born during the reign of D. Afonso V (1463) with the granting of privileges to a town that would eventually receive the name of Vila Nova de Portimão and be surrounded by walls. Apart of the period of expansion during the Discoveries, Portimão grew with international trade, energized by navigation on the African coast. However, the earthquake of 1755 brought great destruction to the city, followed by a reduction of economic activity that would only regain new vigor at the end of the century with the development of trade and export of nuts, milling, fishing and fish preserving. Portimão was promoted to city status in 1924 by the then President of the Republic, the Portimonian writer Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

Our driver Tom was amazing and was very knowledgeable around his history. Although it was cold Tom made sure we was all good. He took us around two villages and we saw cork trees and smelt some amazing herbs. It’s a shame that the river were dried up. The waterfall was lovely but as it was too cold my girls never wanted to swim in there. But it was a lovely and would definitely do it again.

We went through Alsafari tours. Ugo picked us on time in front of the hotel and showed us around providing lots of information (as being a localite) and also gave us enough time to enjoy the nature, places and have coffee comfortably. Highly recommend the trip. The girls enjoyed the most with open jeep. Half day trips is ideal for young families.

It was absolutely amazing Hugo was our driver he explained everything to us and we love how passionate he was about his country and all the knowledge he shared with us. Fantastic company and laughter. Highly recommended we was a family of 5 (children 9, 16 & 16)

Marco was amazing, great sense of humour and a wealth of knowledge and he had his own spin on tourism and information, his knowledge of plants would make him a great botanist...request Marco

It was a pleasant trip showing the native culture and history of Algarve. The guide was knowledgeable about the local life and vegetation. Would recommend.
