Full description
Explore the ruins of Pompeii on a 2-hour tour of the Greco-Roman city, covered for 1,700 years by layers of ash and pumice, from the devastating eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Your guide will describe a flourishing civilization, brought to life by the excavations of the 1800s and 1900s. Follow in the footsteps of the citizens of the greatest empire the world has ever known, and see how they lived, loved, worked and played. Among the highlights of the site are the Porta Marina (Sea Gate), one of the city’s original entrances, as well as the Forum, Main Square, and surrounding temples, porticoes and law courts. 20,000 people lived in the provincial town, of which 2,000 perished. Twenty feet of volcanic ash and pumice stone covered the city, freezing everyday artifacts for later prosperity. Among the most poignant sights are the plaster cast models taken from Pompeii citizens, and their pets.

Not our first time here, best way to visit Pompeii imo. Skip the line tickets aren’t really skip the line tickets. There is a line for the skip the line tickets, even at 09:00 when the gates open, but just around a 5 minutes wait. We booked the privat tour at opening of the gates to avoid the crowds. Around 10:00 it gets very busy and from 11:00 really crowded, so a 2 hour tour was precisely ok, also regarding the heat and the amount of information to take in. Take a picture of the central square when it’s still empty early morning! The tour guide was knowledgeable, professional and was good in taking us to the right highlights at the right time. One point of attention would be a more precise description of the meeting point: it’s upstairs in the trainstation further it was an overall nice experience for the entire family.

Great feel for The key sites and history of Pompeii

Our guide Alexandra really went out of her way to bring the history of Pompeii alive for our family which includes three teenagers. Very knowledgeable, she kept information at a manageable level and thanks to the tour e managed to see and appreciated so much more than we would have done on our own.

Fascinating tour that made history come to life.

We enjoyed our afternoon with our guide so very much. She was extremely knowledgeable about all things Pompeii and told the story of what happened at Pompeii in a fascinating and interesting way. She answered all our questions and moved the tour along at a good pace. I would highly recommend this tour. Without it, Pompeii would still have been amazing but we would not hve understood what we were seeing nearly as much.
