From Bucharest: Dracula Full-Day Private Tour

9. From Bucharest: Dracula Full-Day Private Tour

Poienari Fortress: If we were to put together a tour of the castles in Romania for Dracula fans and adventure lovers, Poenari Castle would have to be on the list, being an important Romanian tourist attraction. With this private trip you will have the perfect chance to discover the wildlife in Transylvania. You will travel by private car and have your own guide. As you are climbing up the 1480 stairs that lead up to the castle, you can rightfully say you are following in the steps of Dracula. To get here it will take us about 2 hours driving! Bran Castle: Step inside if you dare! To get to see Bran we'll drive for 3 hour crossing Carpatian Mountains to Transylvania! Once you see it in person, you will understand why this castle is a symbol of Romanian tourism and why it is the most visited tourist attraction in Romania. Commonly known outside Transylvania as Dracula's Castle, it is often referred to as the home of the title character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. There is no evidence that Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations with Vlad the Impaler, voivode of Wallachia, the putative inspiration for Dracula.Stoker's description of Dracula's crumbling fictional castle also bears no resemblance to Bran Castle. The castle is now a museum dedicated to displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie. Snagov Monastery: Vlad Tepes got his vampire reputation due to the cruel method through which he punished traitors, thieves, and enemies – impalement. Not much is known about the death of Dracula/ Vlad Tepes, but some of the most popular hypotheses are that he was killed in a battle against the Turks, or that he was murdered by Wallachian boyars, as part of a revenge plot. That is why there are many stories and myths about the place where Dracula was buried, supposedly by the monks who loved him for his bravery and love for his country, and who risked their lives to retrieve his body. Most historians who had access to the monastery’s written records believe “Dracula’s” resting place is at Snagov Monastery – an orthodox house of worship built on the island of the same name, surrounded by a beautiful scenery near Bucharest.

Amazing Trip! Must do

My tour guide Alex was the best guide I've ever had. There were some unfortunate cancellations on our trip as we were unable to go to Balea Lake due to the snow (which usually should have melted at the time) and Poenari Castle due to many wild bears. Unfortunately this is out of the company's control. Initially I wasn't too happy because I am missing out on a lot but Alex really did everything to make sure I had a great experience. I really wanted to see the Transfagarasan Road and because I was missing out on so much already he offered to take more out of his time to drive all around the mountains so I can get a worthwhile experience of the Transfagarasan Road. I had even more bad luck as there was fog blocking an amazing view, but Alex was happy to wait patiently for the fog to pass. The view was spectacular! Alex was very knowledgeable and gave me a great insight to the Romanian history and culture. Alex went well above and beyond to ensure I had a pleasant experience. Thank you :)

Such an amazing tour! we visited several places, each with a meaningful historical background for the country, specially about Vlad Tepes legacy. Tour guide was very friendly and kept a nice conversation and profesionalism, even when Poenari castle was closed, he filled the time with other nice places around and the oportunity to try traditional food, I learnt a lot thanks to his knowledge of every place we saw.

GREAT EXPERIENCE

First of all, the Monastry of Curtea de Arges impressive. Although we could not visit Poienari fortress as there were bears arround, Balea Lake was amazing. It's better not to go there on weekends as it is crowded. The guide knew everything perfectly and it was amazing when we put a classical music cd on the route throughout Transfagarasan roads. Impressive. If you want the tour in Spanish, ask for Cristie :)

Gelu was an excellent tour guide and this is a great travel company! The experience was personalized, with plenty of opportunities to take gorgeous pictures and learn in-depth history of the region. This is one of the best tours I’ve ever taken and I can’t recommend it enough!

Absolutely magnificent experience. The trip was fantastic and the views were breathtaking. Our tour guide Alex was just fantastic. He gave us all the useful information and didn’t chase us around. He gave us sufficient time for everything.
