Plovdiv is considered to be one of the oldest cities and it is keeping its heritage from all periods of human history. Itinerary Day 1: Explore Plovdiv Old city You will be picked from your accommodation in Sofia and transferred to the historical part of Plovdiv. Our guide will give you an introduction to the cultural capital of Europe. You will check in your hotel in the historical part of Plovdiv and visit some of the main highlights – wealthy merchants' houses from the XIX century, the Roman theatre, the Roman stadium, 14th-century mosque, which gave the architect fashion in the whole Ottoman Empire, an old pharmacy and many more. Our guide will share all his knowledge about Plovdiv and Bulgaria with you. The evening you can spend in “The Trap” area, full of small restaurants and bars, serving good craft beers and wines. Day 2: Vucha reservoir, Devin path, and wine tasting After breakfast, you will visit one very interesting church, dated Late Antiquity, It is situated 20 kilometers from Plovdiv. After that, we will get in direction of the Rhodope Mountain. We pass a very beautiful and scenic road around some of the biggest water reserves in Bulgaria. You will enjoy the amazing nature by walking an eco path which will lead you to a beautiful waterfall. If your appetite has grown from the fresh air we will go to a restaurant to have lunch and enjoy the view from its terrace. In the afternoon we visit one of the best wine cellars in the South part of Bulgaria. Despite the good wines the place has very interesting owners and history. Day 3: Asen’s Fortress, Bachkovo monastery, and the Wonder Bridges This is the final day of your tour. After breakfast, we will check out our hotel and head to Asenovgrad, where we will visit a medieval fortress with a perfectly preserved church from the 13th century. The top of its fortifications will provide you with a spectacular view of the area. Duration: 1 hour Our next objective is the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria – Bachkovo monastery. It is beautifully painted and exists since the 11th century. It is still an active place of worship. It is also the place where the heroes who saved the Jewish community in Bulgaria during the Second World War from being sent to the Nazi camps. The rest of the day depends on your flight details. If you have to spend 1-2 hours more before catching a flight your guide will drive you to the museum of the Bulgarian Airforce. There you can see the evolution of military aircrafts, helicopters, etc. If time allows more you can reach a huge natural formation famous with the name “The Wonder Bridges” and admire the force of nature and time. The transfer to the airport is included.

This tour starts with visit of Plovdiv, considered to be one of the oldest settlements of Europe, with more than 7000 years of history. Plovdiv is situated on the crossroads between the West and the East, amid the fertile plain of Thrace, where history and modernity go hand in hand, whereas since the ancient times until today culture and art thrive within a vivid medley of shapes, styles and colors. The city is home of the fabulous remains of the Ancient Roman Empire – the Roman Stadium, Roman Forum and the Amphitheatre. The tour also explores the town Perushtitsa, a symbol of heroism and sacrifice in the name of Freedom because of its inhabitants – who preferred death to slavery. It is situated in the outskirts of the Rhodope Mountain, at a distance of 21 km from Plovdiv. In Perushtitsa we will visit the Church St Archangel Michael – the last stronghold and refuge of insurgents in April 1876 against the Ottoman domination, as well as Danov School from the National Revival Period and we will take a look around the Historical Museum. An important site that you will visit is The Red Church, some 2 km from Perushtitsa. It is among the most remarkable monuments of Early Christian architecture. The next stop will be the winery Villa Yustina, situated in the vicinity of Perushtitsa. There you will have the chance to taste typical for the region Bulgarian wine.

5. Sofia, Plovdiv, and The Rose Valley in 2 Days

On the first day of your tour, you will explore Sofia and Plovdiv with your guide and learn about the history and culture of Bulgaria. Your tour will start once you are picked up in Sofia, and you will begin a 3-hour tour of Sofia. In Sofia, you will stop at the UNESCO site Boyana Church before heading towards the city center. Here you will visit several sites including the Alexander Nevski Cathedral, Saint Sofia Church, The National Theatre, St. George Rotunda, amongst several other sites.  From Sofia, you will travel to Plovdiv where you will check into your accommodations and have a lunch in a traditional Bulgarian restaurant before you start your tour of the city. Plovdiv has several sites that will be explored on your tour of the city. You will see the Roman Theatre and the Roman Stadium that remain in the city, and as you explore the Old Town you will walk along narrow cobblestone streets passing Revival Period houses. After touring through Plovdiv you will return to your hotel and end the first day of your tour.  On day two of your tour, you will depart Plovdiv after breakfast and travel to the Rose Valley, passing picturesque landscapes of the region along the way. After an hour and a half transfer, you will arrive in the town of Kazanlak not only famous for its rose oil production but as an important place for the mythical Thracians. Here you will visit the Thracian Tomb of Kazanluk a masterpiece of Thracian artwork and UNESCO world heritage site. You will also enjoy a visit to the History Museum of Kazanluk, and Shipka Memorial Church allowing you to learn and experience the history of the region. Before heading back to Sofia you will stop at Damascena, a private family distillery located in the heart of the Rose Valley. Here you will have lunch in a rose garden and afterward learn about the rose growing industry and production of Bulgarian rose oil. From here you will travel back to Sofia and your tour will end once you are dropped off at your accommodations.
