3. Kulen Mountain: Full-Day Private Waterfall Tour

Depart in the morning from your hotel with private transportation to Phnom Kulen National Park. Drive through wide open rice fields and scattered villages with traditional houses, before winding up the rocky road to the top of the mountain. Phnom Kulen is widely regarded as the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire. During the construction of the ancient temples, sandstones were brought from this sacred mountain to Angkor. Kulen is considered by Khmers to be the most sacred mountain in Cambodia. Visit the River of 1000 Lingas, divided into three ports for the Hindu trinity gods, and with a riverbed filled with thousands of unique, ancient carvings. Ascend to the summit of the hill to marvel at the Buddhist Pagoda and the large Reclining Buddha statue. Continue to the waterfalls of Kulen, pausing at two beautiful spots for a swim and perhaps a spot of lunch. At around 2:00 PM the tour comes to an end and the guide will transfer you back to your hotel. Alternatively, you have the option to stop at Banteay Srei temple, known as the Women's Citadel and built of majestic red sandstone. A valid Angkor day pass is required for entry, costing around $37 per person.

Begin the tour right from your accommodation while you learn about the tour's program. About 48 kilometers away from Siem Reap rests Phnom Koulen National Park. Take a trouble-free trip to Phnom Kulen by booking your national park admission ticket online in advance. Save time by skipping the visit to the ticket office and have your ticket, which will be your pass for visiting Cambodia’s most sacred mountain, delivered directly to your hotel. With this ticket, visit Cambodia's biggest Reclining Buddha, carved on sandstone and located on top of the hill which can be reached through a flight of steps. Next, set off to the sacred river of 1000 Lingas. There, the riverbed is interestingly carved with numerous lingas, a phallic symbol of the Hindu god, Shiva. You will also see some rock carvings along the river depicting Hindu deities. Then, continue through another sacred site, the Phnom Kulen Waterfalls. Calm your senses by watching the waterfall tumbling down the rocks. You will have time to wade in its basin and opt to cool-off from the midday sun by swimming on its pool.

Day One  Suggested pickup time for this day is 7:30 AM. Your driver and tour guide will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to purchase your 3-day temple pass before heading to Banteay Srey early enough to beat the crowds. Banteay Srey is the most intricately carved temple in all of Angkor Wat. On the way there, enjoy views of traditional Khmer villages and palm sugar plantations. Later, you'll have the option to visit the Landmine Museum, or continue on to Phnom Kulen National Park. This National Park is where the 500-year long age of Angkor began. Phnom Kulen is the mountain on which King Jayavarman II initiated the royal “God of the King” Linga cult in 802 AD. Finish the day with a visit to Kampong Phluk, a floating village on Tonle Sap Lake. Day Two  Suggested pickup time for this day is 8:00 AM. Day Three Suggested pickup time for this day is 5:00 AM in order to catch sunrise at Angkor Wat. After the Chinese crowd leaves, you'll have some time to explore this incredible monument at your own leisure. Day Two: Beng Mealea - Kampong Phluk Floating Village - Phnom Bakheng Begin your day at 8:00 AM and travel to a sprawling jungle temple, Beng Mealea, which covers an entire square kilometer. Have lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense). On the way, stop at the Kampong Phluk floating village on Tonle Sap Lake. At 4:30 PM, purchase a 3-day temple pass for the next three days. Then, head to Phnom Bakheng to see a fantastic sunset. Day Three: Angkor Thom - Ta Prohm Starting at 8:30 AM, you'll head to the ancient city of Angkor Thom. Then, visit some of the smaller temples, including Chau Say Tevoda, Thommanon, and Ta Keo. Once again, stop for lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense). Next, head to Banteay Samre and Banteay Srei, two of the most intricately carved temples in all of Angkor. Arrive before the masses of crowds and enjoy a visit to a traditional Khmer village and palm sugar plantation. You may choose to visit the Landmine Museum located nearby for a cost of $5 per person. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant before heading to Roluos Temple Group. Here, marvel at a selection of monuments and temples representing the remains of Hariharalaya, the first major capital of the Khmer Empire. Get dropped off back at your accommodation at the end of the day. Alternatively, if you are not interested in visiting the mountain, then choose the tour option 'Tour without National Park'. The itinerary of this option is similar to the other option, however, the only difference is you will not visit National Park Phnom Kulen.

I liked the waterfall, big Buddha statue, and lookout. Guide was friendly and good. The price may have been a bit high as a friend has done a different Phnom Kulen tour for a lower price.

Fabulous guide. Friendly, adaptable, knowledgeable. He really brought Angkor Wat alive for us with all the information. Driver was great, efficient and always in the right place.

There were only 3 of us on the tour so it was really nice. The guide showed us everything in our own time and made it very interesting.

Waterfalls are beautiful our guide Jose was very good also once again full of I information and took us to good places to get photo.
