Augusta: Whale Watching Tour

5. Augusta: Whale Watching Tour

Step on board and cruise Flinders Bay in style on board the Alison Maree, the sturdiest charter vessel in the South West. Everyone is treated as a VIP on board the vessel with complimentary access available to the Skippers lounge. Listen to old folk stories from Skipper Dundee or Jamie or head down the front of the vessel and learn the history and movements of the whales from the experienced on board Marine Biologist, ask them as many questions as you like. Enjoy a morning or afternoon tea consisting of a hot drink or water and help yourself to some biscuits. With a 99% success sighting rating, you are almost 100% guaranteed to see whales on your tour, if not you can join a tour again for free. The tours are family friendly and suitable for all ages. On average it takes about 7 minutes from departing the Marina until whales are sighted, with over 35000 Humpbacks migrating, binoculars aren't required, there's plenty to see. The cruise goes for approximately 2 hours in the sheltered waters of Flinders Bay, Augusta which is a resting place for the whales whilst on their northern migration. Quite often sighted here is the Southern Right whale - always amazing to see as they were once almost extinct from being hunted back in the whaling days, and due to their gestation period their populations haven't quite recovered as well as the Humpbacks.

The Murray River cruise is a great way to while away a day! We took the train from Perth to Mandurah, then hopped the shuttle down to the jetty, so it is very easy to connect with this cruise line if you don’t have a car. Our captain and his crew mate were very informative about the area, its inhabitants, and the local history. The ride itself is calm and easy and there was room for 10 people up top which is great for pictures. Especially when the dolphins come by to ride the wake behind the boat. There is a stop for lunch and what a lunch it is! The servings were huge, fresh, and delicious! A contented ride back with plenty of waving to lots of friendly people in boats and on the shore made for a most enjoyable time indeed!

It was amazing. Super organized and you could do a lot of things that you probably wouldn't have done otherwise. We even got an additional discount for many extra activities. Our guide was great too. Took care of everything, was there with everything, had a lot of background information and you felt very comfortable with her.

It was one of the best value for money experiences. The staff were lovely, food fresh tasty and accomodating to dietary requirements and commentary factual and interesting. Will definitely recommend to all my friends. Well done!

Personally I thought there was too many people on the boat. It was hard to go from side to side of the boat to see the whales, which was a shame. I did see a dolphin or two though.

It was a fabulous relaxing cruise. The dolphins came out to play and thoroughly enjoyed it.
