8. From El Calafate: Torres del Paine Full Day Tour
The tour starts first thing in the morning: 6:30 A.M. We will be starting with the pick up from the hotels. Next, we will take the road to the "Cancha Carrera" border crossing through a gravel road, to enter the Republic of Chile.
After the customs and immigration procedures, we will meet our guide and we will be ready to travel the last 80 km to the National Park. In this adventure through Chilean lands we will have as main attractions the Mirador del Lago Sarmiento de Gamboa, the Saltos del Río Paine, the upper viewpoint of Cerro Almirante Nieto/Cuernos del Paine, and the entrance to Laguna Amarga. Once inside the Torres del Paine National Park, we will be ready to start with the different trekking trails, where, accompanied by our local experts, a lunch box will be provided.
One of the trails that we will take starts from the Salto Grande. There we will undertake, together with the guide, a low difficulty walk of approximately 1:30 hours in total towards the Mirador de los Cuernos del Paine on the shores of Lake Nordenskjold. Then, back in our vehicle, we will start the road to Lake Pehoé, a last viewpoint, with impressive views of the Cuernos del Paine and the French Valley.
After having marveled at the impressive Torres del Paine and its National Park, we will continue exploring and getting to know the southernmost part of Chilean Patagonia, learning about its flora and fauna on our return to Calafate. We will be arriving at approximately 9:30 P.M.
Several walks will be made, the longest of approximately 1 hour and a half. It is recommended to be in good physical condition.
The route (round trip) is 540 km long and includes 4 customs crossings (2 going and 2 returning). The activity involves many hours of travel. It is not recommended for young children.
Climate: The climate in Southern Patagonia is very unstable, therefore it is possible to have all 4 seasons in the same day.
Restrictions: Due to its long duration and distances to be covered on gravel roads, this excursion is not recommended for young children, pregnant women, people with risk illnesses, neck or spine problems, heart ailments or reduced motor skills.
