Full description
The Hôtel des Invalides was founded by Louis XIV to house veterans and wounded soldiers. It now serves as the prestigious setting for the Musée de l’Armée. This is one of the top 5 visited museums in France, attracting more than 1.4 million visitors in 2015.
In the museum's collections are more than 500,000 pieces, covering the period from the Middle Ages up to the present day. As you follow a newly designed educational route, you'll find armor and weapons of the kings of France, swords, cannons, uniforms, paintings, photographs and the personal effects of important figures such as Francis I, Louis XIV and Charles de Gaulle.
Your visit also takes you to the Dome Church, which since 1861 has been home to the monumental tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte. The golden dome is over 110 meters high.

- Due to ongoing COVID-19 virus preventative measures, the exhibition "Comme en 40…" has been moved to 17 september 2020. The reopening of the Historial Charles de Gaulle is scheduled for September 2020
- Single access to the site by 129 rue de Grenelle

- The Army Museum welcomes you every day of the year, except for January 1, May 1, and December 25 when it is closed
- The museum admission is free for those under 18 years of age and for EU citizens under 26 years
