Full description
Once you meet your guide at your accommodation, you will drive to Giverny in a minivan and walk in the footsteps of Claude Monet. Discover the secrets of one of the founders of Impressionism and leader of the artistic movement of the 19th century. Monet introduced more perception, emotion, and light into the art of his age and spent almost 40 years developing his Giverny property. Immerse yourself in the daily life of the artist by visiting his reading room, the grocery store, office, dining room and kitchen. Admire his collection of Japanese prints and much more. This lavish garden with thousands of colors was once a simple garden which now boasts Japanese cherry trees, tulips and roses. Stroll through the romantic water garden where you can find the Japanese bridge, the wisteria, the famous lily pond, weeping willows and irises. You will also visit a large workshop which saw the birth of the famous water lily series. As a tribute to Impressionists around the world, it also shows the history of the iconic artistic movement. You'll see the garden designed by the landscape painter Mark Rudkin, a contemporary garden since 2009 and classified as one of the Remarkable Gardens of France. It offers a colorful nod to the themes dear to the Impressionists. You will then have lunch at a charming location in Giverny before heading to Auvers-sur-Oise and walking in the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh. Search for the inspiration seen in his paintings such as the wheat fields, the famous church, his room at Auberge Ravoux, and the twin graves of the Van Gogh brothers. After your visit, you will return back to Paris by minibus.

If I was planning this trip again I would just go to Giverny and not bother with the Auvers portion of the trip especially if the gardens are your main interest - our guide was very pleasant but not very conversational - the restaurant we were directed to for lunch was very expensive and the food was heavy and actually unpleasant. However there was a lovely garden at the rear - we also missed the garden at the impressionist museum. Being picked up and dropped off at our hotel was a real bonus at this point in our trip as we are all very tired and had time to get breakfast before setting off.
