Planning Your Paris Visit

What should you know before you arrive in Paris?

In a city this crowded with people and this steeped in tradition, you should decide which attractions you want to see in advance. Know which museums are a must-visit for your group. Make dinner reservations. Decide which neighborhoods you want to explore. Figure out how to beat the crowds at the Musee d'Orsay.

How big is Paris?

If you haven't been to Paris before, you may be surprised by how sprawling the city is compared to other, more walkable tourist destinations like Rome or Barcelona. (You can certainly walk -- but the Métro will help you zip around quicker!) Try to organize your sightseeing by neighborhood, so that you're not racing across the city several times a day.

How many days should you spend in Paris?

It depends! It really will help to prioritize what you want to see before you go, and map out how long it will take you to see everything on your list. You could easily fill five days with tours and major attractions -- but remember to dedicate time to strolling down the Seine, shopping your way through the Marais, and drinking a Kir Royal at a sidewalk cafe.

What people are saying about Paris

Our guide made it all so interesting and easy

We loved having Deborah as our guide. She was informative and full of interesting facts and history and context but without being “boring” as the kids would say. My 11 and 9 year old loved it and the 6 year old enjoyed it as much as a tired 6 year old enjoys any museum!! We all learnt so much and it was a fabulous overview of the exhibits and the history of the Louvre itself. All in a manageable for kids 2 hours. As a contrast, we tried to do the Egyptian exhibition alone afterwards and it was so difficult to find our way etc - we were all very grateful we had seen the rest with our guide!!! Deborah herself is lovely and great with children. She answered all their questions and cared about the experience the children were having. The tour is expensive but if you want to get the most out of the Louvre for your family I highly recommend it as good value. Thank you!!!

1.5 hours queuing and guide 40 mins late

We booked for 8am guided tour and instructions were to arrive 20 mins before that. We arrived 30 mins before as not sure of location and dozens of other visitors assembled. Guide Stefan didn't turn up until 10 past 8 with no apology. He escorted us to the Eiffel tour, provided tickets, put us in a queue where we waited another 1.5 hours which wasn't great as we were expecting a skip the line service for the price. Inside the tower was great but we couldn't see the guide so missed some of his commentary. Views were great but I think It's better to view Tower from ground than other way round. Seine cruise was actually more enjoyable and less queuing. Price on tickets provided by guide for Eiffel Tower to top level was €25 so rather overpriced for not much service.

Fantastic museum with fantastic tour guide

The Musee d’Orsay, as beautiful as it is, literally came life with our excellent guide Anja. Her enthusiasm and knowledge of the history and importance of the art was mesmerizing. She was a delight to be with and we cannot thank her enough for taking us along on her magnificent journey through the Musee d’Orsay. Ten stars would not be enough! Don’t miss this beautiful experience.

Very nice guide and makes sense to save time

The trip started just in time and we were guided by a very kind person - Philipp. From the beginning and to the end everything went smoothly. We were happy that we booked this guided trip to Versailles - the line were huge and was even longer when we left. Philipp has a good knowledge and a perfect sense of humor - it was a pleasure and we felt to be in good hands.

Enthralling Take the stairs its sooo worth it

We had our tour start at 9.30 and there was a 15 min que for the stairs our guide talked us through some of the history of the construction while we waited and it flew by. Walking up felt great a little achievement when we got up there to see the view. then had a little tour of all 4 side of the second floor great stuff really enjoyed it
