  • Monterey Bay: Whale Watching Tour

    1. Monterey Bay: Whale Watching Tour

The tour departs from Monterey Old Fisherman’s Wharf, where the boat sets sail into the harbor, home to breathtaking sea views. As the tour leaves the dock, catch a glimpse of the hundreds of Californian Sea Lions inside the harbor. Take advantage of the view and snap a photo to capture the memory. Upon leaving the harbor, the boat passes the historic Cannery Row and then enters the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Monterey is one of the world’s best locations for whale watching due to the deep submarine canyon close to shore. This is where the search for the wonders of the bay’s marine life begins. With whales spotted almost every day, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Keep your eyes peeled as you scan the water for the abundance of marine life that lives here. Search for feeding humpback whales, a variety of dolphin species, porpoises, blue whales, fin whales and more....

From the very beginning of the trip, to the last second, this trip was PHENOMENAL! We had amazing crew and a whale that literally breached out in front of our boat... UNREAL! I've been on numerous whale watches in the past and this one is by far the BEST! Thank you for so much for an unforgettable adventure! ❤️

Excellent tour, covered all the major spots along California coast from Santa Cruz to Monterey to Carmel by the sea with important stops along the coast with appropriate time to take photos. Our your guide Doug and river Jason were pretty amazing and Doug has a thorough knowledge and passion and he was did an excellent job explaining all the important history on the tour. 17 Mile drive and pebble Beach were pretty amazing and beautiful. In Carmel, if you do not plan to shop, consider walking to the beach, it's a 0.5 mile walk slightly tedious walk (considering all the elevations) from the bus stop but it's worth it. In Monterey, aquarium will always be sold out when you arrive unless you dont book it prior, so 2 he is a little long, but considering it in life's lunch stop too, it totally makes sense. Apart from cannery row, consider taking a walk across lovers point trail in Pacific Grove which is just next to cannery row, it's pretty scenic.

Overall it was a good experience would like to stay a bit longer at Pebble Beach & Carmel. The San Francisco day was excellent. I would skip the City Hall and would prefer more a stop at Golden Gate Park or at Muir Woods. The Yosemite day was great the only problem we had was an Austrian couple was late by 25 minutes from our first El Capitan stop. This made coming back to Los Angeles very late.

Our whale watching experience was fantastic for the adventurous person! We saw 5-6 whales as well as some sea lions. Three of the whales were breaching for about an hour, so we saw some amazing jumps. Forewarning, the water was choppy on the day we went so it would be a less pleasant experience if you are sensitive to sea-sickness, as some others on the boat were. Also, be prepared to get a wet and bring a poncho. All in all, we had a great time!

Like Gilligan's Island it was a 3 hour tour. 1.5 hours in we had reserved the fact that we may see no animals and then before you know it a school of porpoises, seals and 7 or so humpback whales all feeding on a school of sardines up close around and at one point even under our boat. Thanks to our parient Capt and crew and for their vast knowledge of these animals and their habits. Well worth it.

The guides were very knowledgeable, friendly and made the experience personable! Highly recommend!!
