Full description

Join a university-educated guide, with years of experience and local knowledge of Oxford City and colleges. See the dreamy spires of one of the oldest universities in the world on a guided walking tour. Go inside some of the city’s most historic colleges, such as New College, founded in 1379 and more recently seen in the Harry Potter films and television productions of Inspector Morse and Lewis. Visit Exeter College, founded in 1314, and another favorite on most tours. Stop by Hertford College, with its romantic façade and Bridge of Sighs, instantly recognizable from Brideshead Revisited. See the University Library and learn about the collegiate system unique to Oxford and Cambridge. Discover famous alumni who studied and taught at the university, including the infamous Dr Spooner, whose portraits hang in New College Dining Hall and whose name is given to the playful linguistic phenomenon of spoonerisms.

We really enjoyed our tour of Oxford University, the guide, a third year student was friendly, knowledgeable and welcomed questions. The site mentioned Harry Potter filming sites however you can’t enter those spots, so it was disappointing to not get into the library. It seems like false advertising. Also it says Oxford Univ and City tour but we did tour the city or learn much about anything but the university system. We were hoping for an overall city and campus tour so it was disappointing not to see the city. I would recommend the tour but let others know it’s only a campus tour with entry into 2-3 churches and an entry way into a dorm. I can’t remember if we went into a dining hall, sorry. The school wasn’t in session so I was surprised we didn’t have access to more.

Alli was a wonderful and excellent guide, who was incredibly knowledgeable and gave a real insight into the history of Oxford and its colleges. What we particularly enjoyed was that Alli also provided bespoke information based on the interests of the people who were doing the tour. We were doing the tour with our 2 children, and he really brought the info to life for all ages. Would highly recommend!

The tour was informative and showed us around some of the key University of Oxford sites. There was nice trivia like the lamppost which inspired CS Lewis to write The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and quirks of university life. Unfortunately, there were multiple sites which we were not able to gain access because an additional fee was required to be paid. This included the Bodleian and Sheldonian Theatre. We were under the impression that this was included in the tour so that was a bit disappointing. Still a rewarding experience and worth doing if you're in Oxford.
