Kahketi: Full-Day Wine Tasting Tour with Lunch

1. Kahketi: Full-Day Wine Tasting Tour with Lunch

Taste some of the best wines in Georgia during this full-day visit to the Kakheti wine region around Tbilisi. On your visit, learn about the traditional Georgian method of making wine in clay vessels and taste the wines at several wineries. Stop in the ancient town of Sighnaghi surrounded by an impressive wall and backed by the Caucasus Mountains. A traditional Georgian lunch in a family-owned winery completes this full-day experience. This tour will start and finish in Tbilisi, and will take you on a journey through the wineries of the Kakheti region. Visit Sighani, the town of love and take in the Caucasus Mountains and the Alazani Valley. Then enjoy wine tasting at Okro's boutique winery, where you will try wine as well as chacha (Georgian grape vodka). Next, enjoy lunch at an authentic family museum and wine cellar in Velistsikhe, accompanied with homemade wines, of course. After lunch, head to the Khareba winery, which is built into a Soviet-era bomb shelter near the town of Kvareli, for more wine-tasting and churchkela (traditional Georgian dessert). Finally, pass the 16th-century architectural complex of Gremi Monastery on the return to Tbilisi, with the option to visit if you wish.

David Gareji Monastery and Signagi Wine Tasting Private Tour

2. David Gareji Monastery and Signagi Wine Tasting Private Tour

Depart Tbilisi and travel to a dry desert region surrounded by hills and only inhabited by a few shepherds. Arrive at the historic David Gareji Monastery complex, founded by hermits who chose a secluded life in the early Middle Ages. Take an optional hike to the top of the hill separating Georgia and Azerbaijan, and get stunning views of the surroundings as you look for more of the abandoned caves. Continue to the small town of Signagi overlooking the Alazani Valley and Caucasian Mountains. Stroll the narrow streets to buy souvenirs and enjoy lunch at leisure. Sample the local Marani wine and an authentic chacha (brandy) at a traditional winery and learn the history of wine making in Georgia. Visit the nearby convent at Bodbe, famed as an important site of pilgrimage for Orthodox Christians. Return to Tbilisi via a village that makes the local churchkhela candies to try some of the best sweet treats in Georgia!

I recently went on a wine tour in Tiblisi Georgia and it was absolutely fantastic! The owner was so friendly and welcoming, and really made us feel like we were part of the family. One of the highlights of the tour was when he took us to a local home and we got to experience the culture firsthand. It was truly an unforgettable experience. The owner was also an expert on the local wines, and he took us to some of the best wineries in the region. The wine was delicious and we learned so much about the different varietals and the history of Georgian wine. But perhaps the best part of the tour was the bread and cheese. It was some of the best bread I've ever had and it really added to the overall experience. Overall, I highly recommend this wine tour to anyone visiting Tiblisi. It was a truly memorable experience and I can't thank the owner enough for his warm hospitality and for sharing his culture with us.

A full day of great wine, authentic home made Georgian foods and amazing information from an amazing guide and driver Giorgi. No shortcuts were taken from the moment we were picked up at the hotel at 9am until the moment we arrived back at the hotel at 9pm by our amazing guide Giorgi with his very unique limited edition Star Wars rogue one Nissan. To say he was a Jedi as a guide is an understatement. Great local cheeses, bread, traditional Georgian homemade sweets, Buffalo yoghurt, organic wines from white, amber to red, grape liquor called chacha, to being welcomed into the ancestral home of a Georgian family to try their 200+ grape types from their humble backyard to eating their traditional food cooked by them. Then visiting the largest winery that store and age their wines in a bomb shelter. This is a tour that will not be soon forgotten.
