What people are saying about Oaxaca de Juarez
For an organized tour of common tourist sites I felt it was well done. The guide seemed to do well switching from Spanish to English as our group had both. He was friendly, informative and humorous at times. We saw Tule Tree, Mitlan, a mezcal distillery and Hierve el Agua. The mezcal distillery was perhaps understandably large scale tho still using the artisanal method. Small one-person pelenques are something to experience. Hierve el Agua was quite an experience but do figure on hiking down to the bottom (we had a 'free' guide take us which was very helpful - the path isn't marked and we wouldn't have found everything on our own. He also warned us that many of the plants shouldn't be touched as they're poisonous and would sting. Just tip the guide when done). Enjoying the pools at the top was really neat. I felt they did a good job of explaining Mitlan's history and importance. Pickup and drop off was as expected.
We had the most amazing time on this tour. We were taken to 3 mezcal factories of different sizes and got many tastings of mezcal. I didn't keep count but it was easily over 10. Our favorite part was the ride through the agave fields where we got to drink mezcal from a maguey leaf. We had already done 5 mezcal tastings at various mezcalerias in Oaxaca before going on this tour. I wish we had done this tour first as we learned quite a bit about mezcal. We would have appreciated all that mezcal even more. Highly recommended!
We had such a great time with Alberto and all of the people we met along the way! It was a gloomy and rainy day but we loved the walk/hike at Hierve El Agua with a local guide (Spanish speaking). We loved the tapestry/rug shop and were able to purchase a few items. The home style lunch was one of our favorite meals of the whole trip, and, of course, the mezcal tasting was a lot of fun. It was a long day, so be prepared, but definitely worth experiencing the best of Oaxaca in a single day.
A wonderful day tour of Monte Alban, the artist Don Miguel Jimenez,, and the black pottery makers. You’d never find DonMiguel’s studio on your own. A fabulous day in a magical place!!!
Javier was a more than excellent guide. We went to all three destinations and were enthralled with the artisans that shared their skills and history. Full and exciting day.
