Visited 2 brew houses (microbrewery plus a restaurant serving traditional Franconian food in Bavaria). One brewery (Barfusser, barefooter monks who brew beer in the past) is housed in a former custom collection building during the middle ages when Nuremberg was a major trading center along with Augsburg. I tried a dark lager. Second brewery is also a small microbrewery with restaurant serving the same type of food as above, and there is a underground tour associated with this Brauhaus. In the middle ages, beer was brewed down in the underground cellars/tunnels. I tried the red beer. Both beers were a good experience. My guide also took me on a quick walk through the old town. I did sign up for the cellar-tunnel tour with the second brewery for an additional 5 euros, very reasonable. On the tour, the English speaking tourists were given an audio guide, while the guide spoke german to German tourists. Most of the guests were German speaking.

You should take this tour early in your visit so that you can learn about the areas that interest you the most. If you enjoy beer in your native land then you will certainly appreciate seeing a few local breweries. The pace is just right and our guide Ben was very informative. Prost!
