Dankzij het vulkanische landschap herbergt IJsland veel zwarte zandstranden. De bekendste is het strand van Reynisfjara, gelegen aan de zuidkust van IJsland, net naast het kleine vissersdorpje Vik. Het kenmerkende zwarte zand vormt zich van geërodeerd vulkanisch gesteente en creëert dit opvallend unieke landschap waar het zwarte zand contrasteert met de witte, krachtige golven van de Atlantische Oceaan.
