Full description
After pickup from your hotel in the Barahona area, drive along the spectacular coastal road to Bahoruco. Well hidden in the mountains, you will visit the only existing Larimar Mine in the world, the blue stone exclusive to the Dominican Republic. Discovered in 1974, this stone is scratch resistant and very easy to polish, and is used to make uniquely beautiful jewelry. Arriving at the mine, you'll have a tour around the area with the opportunity to talk to the miners. Leaving the mountains, you will head to your picnic lunch location at a private home situated directly on the river with a natural swimming basin. Enjoy a true taste of authentic Dominican fare and a dip before heading to a Larimar shop to have a chance to process this precious stone yourself. Afterwards, head back to your accommodation in Barahona.
