Starting in New York City's neighborhood of Alphabet City, embark on a 2-hour urban walking tour where you will examine how some of Manhattan's last artist-friendly neighborhoods that have nurtured artists like The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Regina Spektor.
During this tour, you'll check out where famous artists recorded their debut albums, the neighborhood bars where Elliott Smith wrote XO and Stephin Merritt wrote the Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs, and where James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem began his DJ career.
You'll also see where Beck, Regina Spektor, King Missile, and the Moldy Peaches all started their careers at open mic night. Go to the venues where the Strokes, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beck, Anohni, and Neutral Milk Hotel made their live debuts and the apartments where Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Stephin Merritt, and Jonathan Fire*eater lived early in their careers.
