Full description
Your guided small-group walking tour will began in Manhattan's historic Meatpacking District, which has been a corridor of food production for over a century. See how the area has been preserved while also evolving into a trendy neighborhood of boutique shops and restaurants. It is there that you will enter the High Line Park, before beginning your beautiful journey uptown.
Throughout your walk along the High Line, your guide will discuss the history of this former freight rail line and how it evolved, with historical photos for reference. Your guide will also show you the hidden secrets of the park, including how the rail tracks are used today, its old loading docks now hidden in plain sight, and more. This park is a lush greenway with amazing views. Its plant life consists of hundreds of species and is designed to thrive in all times of year. You will also see the ever-changing art displays along this line.
As you make your way north, you will see fascinating historic architecture, as well as new developments by Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Bjarke Ingels, and many more. Finally, the Hudson Yards will quickly come into view. The largest private development project in NYC history, this project is literally birthing an entire new neighborhood on top of the Hudson rail-yards.
Your guide will explain the history of this project, which has continued to grow in ambition even after its first phase opened. You will see numerous new skyscrapers rising up, including the western hemisphere’s tallest outdoor observation deck, as well as new parks and public art destinations. You'll also see the Vessel, the Shed performing arts center, and much more.
