Hear how artists and writers flocked to the area to create the rich cultural landscape of the Harlem Renaissance.  See iconic sights, such as the Apollo Theatre, the legendary Cotton Club, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and Duke Ellington's former apartment. Visit some of Manhattan's oldest homes such as the Morris-Jumel Mansion.  Part of this tour is listening to a gospel choir singing at a church service or practicing by themselves. The best word to describe this trip is: OMG I LOVED IT! We got more then our expectations would ever dream of! And our guide, Deborah - WE LOVED HER! A truly amazing woman who knows her history and keeps the “life” up in the tour group. We loved the church and the community and they were so welcoming to us. A true gospel service with “hallelujah” and singing and music. Worth every dollar!

    Authentic experience

Great trip to a local church in the Bronx after a nice tour of Harlem. We had a really skilled guide who knew the area really well and had a lot of good information. Originally we were interested in seeing the Abyssinian Baptist Church, but we were super excited to get to a local church. The congregation was super nice and very welcoming - and it was in no way staged for the tourists, but a service for the locals, in which we were included.

Very nice spontaneous German-speaking guide who told interesting background history during the bus ride to Harlem without sounding long-winded. The church service at The Friendly Church was unforgettable. Because it was a super sunny day, we chose to walk back to Times Square via Central Park. In a word: Great!!
