You really have to visit this museum which perfectly complements visits to Pompeii or other villas. We had to exchange our vouchers for tickets and therefore queue like everyone else. I don't know if it was really interesting to go through this site. We didn't feel like taking a guided tour and that was fine. It is quite hot because there is no air conditioning. Don't forget your water bottles.

After our visits to Vesuvius and then to the 'mundane' Herculaneum (the Monte Carlo avant la lettre) and the 'working class Pompeii', we admired and marveled at the daily life in the archaeological museum: The frescoes, mosaics, statues and the daily utensils such as glass, jewelry and medical instruments of the residents give a good picture of life until the volcanic eruption, which came to an abrupt halt. Pliny the Younger, who found his uncle one of the victims after the eruption, has written in detail about the volcanic eruption as an eyewitness. We became silent at the sight of the human remains, such as the pregnant woman (with belly) who was found lying forward and covering her face with her hands: The filled-in cavity of her body in the volcanic remains we had also seen in Herculaneum.

Truly a must see!

Truly a must see! If you have been to Pompeii or Herculaneum sites, you must come here to see all the beautiful mosaics and frescoes removed from those sites. Also the gallery of sculptures is incredible, many taken from the baths of Caracalla. We took our time exploring this museum about 5 hours and it was well worth the time.
