Santiago de Compostela: Finisterre, Muxia & Costa da Morte

1. Santiago de Compostela: Finisterre, Muxia & Costa da Morte

Begin the tour with a visit to Ponte Maceira, a charming little town that is an obligatory stop for pilgrims who travel on their journey towards the “end of the world”. Admire its 14th-century bridge over the Tambre river and see the picturesque sets of medieval mills. Next, head towards the coast and enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the coast of Carnota. Drive by the beautiful coastal landmarks of Lira, Carnota Beach, Boca do Río, Mount Pindo, and Cape Fisterra. After, arrive at Ézaro, where the river Xallas falls into the sea forming a waterfall, the Ézaro waterfall, probably the most famous in Galicia and unique in Continental Europe. Continue to Cape Fisterra (Finisterre) once believed to be the westernmost point in Europe, where the lighthouse and kilometer zero (Km 0) of the Camino de Santiago is located. Here, eat lunch and get free time to walk around the town and its fishing port. Resume the itinerary and head to Muxia where you will be met here with a beautiful Sanctuary at the foot of the Atlantic and with three stones considered sacred by the Galicians. On the way back to Santiago, explore one of the largest barns on the Costa da Morte. The “Hórreo” of San Martiño de Ozón dates from the 16th century and is located next to a 12th-century Romanesque church and a small monastery now converted into a hostel for pilgrims.

3. Cape Finisterre & Costa da Morte Day Tour from Santiago

Take a day to get to know the Costa da Morte and the most rugged Atlantic coast facade in Galicia. Discover places of unique and stately beauty, such as Ponte Maceira and Muros, which has the privilege of owning an authentic marine quarter. Muros, with its beautifully restored old town, maintained its original image and now is its own sign of identity against the excesses of the coastline. The next stop is Ézaro in the extreme south of the Coast of Death. The waterfall of Ézaro is the only waterfall in Europe where fresh water pours directly into ocean. See Cape Finisterre Lighthouse, the westernmost area of Europe. Since ancient times, this place was considered by the Romans to be the end of the earth. Here you can enjoy stunning views of the cliffs, brave the waters of the Atlantic, and also take some free time for lunch in the town of Finisterre. Finally, discover another essential point, Muxía, a typical fishing village well known for its Virxe da Barca sanctuary, a baroque building built in the 11th-century chapel with a balcony facing towards the sea. Do not miss the opportunity to discover one of the most unique areas of Galicia.

The tour was really nice. The bus stopped in many interesting places, with great views. Each stop had time enough to enjoy the place before leaving. The guide told a lot of interesting things and he was very friendly and helpful. The transportation was good and comfortable. Totally recommended.

Great tour! Small group not big tour bus . Saw everything with enough time. Ruben was informative, personable and fun. Interacted with all members of the group. Attentive to everyone. Easily understood in English or Spanish.

It was a great tour. The guide spoke in English as well as Spanish! She gave us information on the different places we visited including some interesting history. I thoroughly enjoyed the day!

This was an amazing and reasonable tour to “the end of the world” or tour guide was amazing! Knowledgeable and funny. I would definitely recommend this day trip to anyone!

Great tour, best bang for your money. A must see experience. My only criticism is that the guides English was not very good and hard to understand.
