Benefit from pick-up at your hotel or the Port of Muscat, and then travel approximately 170 kilometers to Jebel Akhdar, one of the most fabulous landmarks of Oman. Known as "Green Mountain" for the moisture at higher altitudes that supports agriculture and allows shrubs to grow, Jebel Akhdar is otherwise a desert of dramatic wilderness and extraordinary beauty. Admire the green terraced gardens surrounding the villages, and drive through the Sumail Gap, the rocky natural passage that divides the Eastern and Western Hajar Mountains. Follow in the footsteps of intrepid tradesmen as you pass the town of Izki and proceed to the Saiq Plateau, only accessible by donkey for hundreds of years. See the variety of fruits growing, such as pomegranates, apricots and lemons in season. Make use of the cool, dry climate to take a walk around Wadi Bani Habib, Shrejaya, Al Ain and Aqur. Return to Musc...

Wrong description, you are not going to Izki but Nizwa. At least in our case. Everything else very nice

  • Wahiba Sands & Wadi Bani Khalid Private Tour

    4. Wahiba Sands & Wadi Bani Khalid Private Tour

Cross the desert dunes of Muscat by 4WD vehicle, and experience the adrenaline rush of driving across the rugged terrain in an off-road mode of transport. Make your way to the Wahiba Sands to see the traditional homes of the desert nomads and Bedouin tribes. Keep a look-out for the nomads as they move through the desert with their camels. Visit a Bedouin home in the middle of the desert, and contrast the arid landscape with the clear, blue waters of Wadi Bani Khalid. Enjoy a relaxing siesta in the shade of the palm trees, and catch a glimpse of the pretty villages scattered across the slopes of the wadi. Marvel at how the houses cling precariously to the rugged mountain side. Bring your swimming costume to take a dip in the inviting waters!

An enjoyable trip - the driver was particularly helpful throughout the trip. It would be useful to say to take towels in the what to pack section for bathing in the Wadis. Also a picture of what is acceptable to wear when swimming at the wadis (it was displayed on a signpost at the Wadi). We did think lunch was included.

Simply one of the most stunning places I have ever visited! Our driver and excellent tour guide, Ramadan, picked us up from our hotel in Muscat at 8am and drove us to Nizwa Souk for a full Omani cultural experience. During our tour, he was a very honest and warm host, who spoke about his life in Oman, his family and everything that his beautiful country had to offer. Once we had our delightful tour of the souk - stopping regularly for Omani coffee and a plethora of delicious dates, we travelled onwards to Jebel Shams: the Grand Canyon of Oman. After a lengthy, yet interesting drive through the mountain villages, we were greeted with an astonishing view and Ramadan gave us plenty of space and time to ourselves to explore the area. The drive back to Muscat took around three hours, but Ramadan kept us entertained throughout. Overall, an absolute must.
