    1. From Muscat: Day Trip to Jebel Shams, Oman's Grand Canyon

Begin your tour with 8:00 AM pickup from your accommodation in Muscat, then head to Nizwa, the birthplace of Islam and former capital of the Sultanate of Oman. Once there, enjoy the rich history of Oman dating back to the 17th century in a city packed with forts, historical edifices, and date plantations. Gaze at elaborate khanjars, or hand-carved daggers, and masterfully-crafted silver jewelry in Round Tower Fort, one of the city’s most famous fortifications. Later, you will be directed to Jebel Shams. On the way there, make stops to capture the best pictures at Al Hamra, a 300-year-old town located close to a flourishing oasis, and Misfat Al Brein, a 13th-century village located at the border of the canyon. • Wahiba Sands & Wadi Bani Khalid Private Tour

    2. Wahiba Sands & Wadi Bani Khalid Private Tour

Cross the desert dunes of Muscat by 4WD vehicle, and experience the adrenaline rush of driving across the rugged terrain in an off-road mode of transport. Make your way to the Wahiba Sands to see the traditional homes of the desert nomads and Bedouin tribes. Keep a look-out for the nomads as they move through the desert with their camels. Visit a Bedouin home in the middle of the desert, and contrast the arid landscape with the clear, blue waters of Wadi Bani Khalid. Enjoy a relaxing siesta in the shade of the palm trees, and catch a glimpse of the pretty villages scattered across the slopes of the wadi. Marvel at how the houses cling precariously to the rugged mountain side. Bring your swimming costume to take a dip in the inviting waters!

An enjoyable trip - the driver was particularly helpful throughout the trip. It would be useful to say to take towels in the what to pack section for bathing in the Wadis. Also a picture of what is acceptable to wear when swimming at the wadis (it was displayed on a signpost at the Wadi). We did think lunch was included.

What people are saying about Muscat Governorate

Fantastic day

We had a fantastic day. Our guide Ahmed was very knowledgeable and informative, and as well as giving us a lot of information, also gave us a lot of insights into the everyday lives of Omanis. A delightful man! First stop was the Bedouin camp, and although no one was there due to the time of the year we were still able to go into the main room and look around. Dune bashing was fun, and the scenery stunning. Swimming at Wadi Bani Khaled was idyllic. It was very quiet due again to the time of the year. The day did seem a little pricey for what you get, but an excellent experience nevertheless.

Very good guide, very kind .. Hammed is an Omani boy of great culture and respect .... it is worth doing this tour only for his presence and availability ... he tells you all about Oman things and traditions Bravissimo! And we have made many trips around the world and excursions as many

Perfect and entertaining tour. Ahmed promptly picked us up from the airport and drove us to the Wahiba Sands Dunes in a large, new, comfortable car. He told us many interesting things about Oman and then we went to the Wadi Bani Khalid oasis. 100% recommended and reliable tour. Worth.

First experience with a private tour, I must say experience above expectations. Extremely expert guide. Excellent understandable English. He made us enter the Omani customs also making us taste some local foods. To recommend
