Full description
Begin at an outstanding metro station, which shows the three main wars of Russie. Head to the train station and take the train to Sergiev Posad. Look at the iconic mosaic works on the ceiling and try to work out where Stalin's face used to be. Stoll around the old city along the small neat little houses and pretty streets. Get ready to see the main sightseeing place in this wooden heart of Russia. Stop close to the Kelarskiy pond, founded in 1552. Prepare some bread and feed the birds as many Russians do every day. Discover the biggest church in Lavra inspired by the Assumption Cathedral in the Kremlin. It was influenced by Ivan the Terrible who had a particular veneration for St. Sergius. Admire the Bell Tower of the Trinity Lavra, which at 88 meters high is 11 meters more than the belfry of the Novodevichy Convent and 6 meters more than the bell tower of Ivan the Great in the Moscow Kremlin.  Enter the oldest cathedral of the Lavra which was rebuilt exactly in the same place where the first wooden church was founded. Try to guess what year the cathedral was founded. Listen to the impressive story of Sergei Radonezhsky, who devoted himself to helping people. Pilgrims from all over the world come here to show respect. Touch the relics of the saint and make a wish. Take an empty bottle with you to try the holy water just as many Russians do. See a whole line of pilgrims here to drink the consecrated water, which according to faith can cleanse you from your sins. Complete your day with a traditional lunch of dumplings with all different ingredients including cabbage, potatoes, mushrooms, veal, sour cream, and cherry. Learn how to wish that your companions have a pleasant meal in Russian then treat yourself to dessert.

Ekaterina was a lovely guide, very friendly, welcoming and engaging. She fetched us bright and early from our hotel and looked after us the entire day. The trip to Sergiev was lovely - a city with much religious importance, as we're taught about the historical churches and christian religion. Ekaterina was very knowledgeable in the matter.
