What people are saying about Monsaraz

My friend and I had a wonderful day of fun and learning. Joao was incredibly knowledgeable about the entire area around Evora and Monsaraz. Joao told us all about almond farming. We stopped to examine cork trees and learned about the role of black pigs in raising cork and the whole sustainable industry. We were the only people on the tour and also in the pottery demonstrations. The pottery visit was not one of those high pressure sales jobs. We wandered in while the potters were making their wares and could chat with them. There were only a couple of other people in the workspace. It was mostly filled with workers who were part of a 7th generation family business. Monsaraz (population of about 30) was beautifully located on a mountaintop and gave us a good background on medieval times. There is even a bull ring and a couple of small shops. Try looking at the pottery there as well. Wine tasting was awesome! If you want to truly get a good history of the area, ask for Joao!

We spent several weeks in various parts of Portugal and we can easily say that this tour was by far our favorite! João was an amazing guide who educated us on the history, traditions, and culture of Evora. He was extremely knowledgeable and curated the tour perfectly so that every aspect of the tour together was connected in one large picture. Although it was very cloudy and cold the day of our tour, Monsaraz was absolutely beautiful and the final wine tasting was accompanied with a breathtaking view of the country. We will definitely be returning with all our friends and family. 10/10 recommed!

So glad we took this tour to the Alentejo region. Our guide, Marco, was terrific. He was flexible, friendly and informative. He stopped for us first at the "Stonehenge" of the Alentejo, which was most interesting, then we toured Evora with its interesting cathedral. Also had an excellent lunch there. Then on to Monsaraz, which is a beautiful spot high on a hill, all whitewashed buildings, with an amazing 360-degree view. The wine tasting was excellent, and we had time for a little shopping as well. A long but very rewarding day!

Wonderful tour with our guide Rodrigo. Did wine testing at lovely Monsaraz near the Spanish border. Evora was amazing, great food, beautiful churches and Roman temple. Highly recommend

This was a fun trip. A bit of a ride out there but great to get out of lisbon and see the country side.
