What people are saying about Monsaraz

While Sintra is at the top of the list for Lisbon day tours, I highly recommend considering this if you have an extra day to tour. Evora was the morning stop, with the roman temple, chapel of bones, and cathedral. You can actually walk on the roof of the cathedral for some great views of the surrounding area. We continued to Monsaraz, near the border with Spain, to experience this old walled city in relative quiet. Lunch was there in a nice local restaurant (Xarez) with gorgeous views, followed by the wine tasting (Ervideira winery) with generous pours. Enjoy the ride back through Portugal's agricultural region ... maybe snooze a bit of the wine off too. :) Our guide (Alex) made the trip all the more enjoyable with good conversation and side notes.

It was incredible experience to visit Monsaraz little mediaval town located on the top of the hill with picturesque views. On the way to Monsaraz we visited family owned pottery fabric and learned a lot about pottery making technologies. Then we made a stop to see cork trees ang learned about cork harvesting. Our guide Joao is the best guide ever! He shared a lot of stories, made our trip unforgetable. The cherry on the cake was the wine testing experience in the wine shop in Monsaraz. Nuno was very friendly host of testing there. We enjoyed the tour and highly recommend it as well as Joao as a tour gude for everyone visiting Evora! Thanks a lot Joao and Nuno. Diogo Martins was a wonderful tour guide. He gave us the exact amount of free time in between monuments we were visiting to shop, relax, and ask questions. He prepped us before each site or monument so we knew exactly what to concentrate on. He was personable and shared anecdotal historical information about the sites we visited. We would happily go on another tour with Diogo anytime!

What a day! Magical places to visit, Monsaraz is a hidden gem and to walk on the roof of Evora cathedral was a blast. Gonzalo, our guide was very knowledgeable, a lot of historical details, funny and we learn a lot about Portugal history in a day ( he was a teacher before) Many thanks Gonzalo, it was our privilege to have you as our guide! Henrique and Miguel were fun, friendly, very knowledgeable, and informative. We really enjoyed our tour!
