What people are saying about Monsaraz

While Sintra is at the top of the list for Lisbon day tours, I highly recommend considering this if you have an extra day to tour. Evora was the morning stop, with the roman temple, chapel of bones, and cathedral. You can actually walk on the roof of the cathedral for some great views of the surrounding area. We continued to Monsaraz, near the border with Spain, to experience this old walled city in relative quiet. Lunch was there in a nice local restaurant (Xarez) with gorgeous views, followed by the wine tasting (Ervideira winery) with generous pours. Enjoy the ride back through Portugal's agricultural region ... maybe snooze a bit of the wine off too. :) Our guide (Alex) made the trip all the more enjoyable with good conversation and side notes.

Diogo Martins was a wonderful tour guide. He gave us the exact amount of free time in between monuments we were visiting to shop, relax, and ask questions. He prepped us before each site or monument so we knew exactly what to concentrate on. He was personable and shared anecdotal historical information about the sites we visited. We would happily go on another tour with Diogo anytime!

We loved this tour. The tour guide Alex (Alexander the Great) was excellent. He knew the history and information on this part of the country and was able to explain everything in detail. He was also very fun and funny. The first fort looks out at Spain and the wine tasting was good. The trip Evora was quite nice and of course learning about the Chapel of Bones - very very interesting.

What a day! Magical places to visit, Monsaraz is a hidden gem and to walk on the roof of Evora cathedral was a blast. Gonzalo, our guide was very knowledgeable, a lot of historical details, funny and we learn a lot about Portugal history in a day ( he was a teacher before) Many thanks Gonzalo, it was our privilege to have you as our guide! Henrique and Miguel were fun, friendly, very knowledgeable, and informative. We really enjoyed our tour!
